VILLAGE OF BERGEN
Planning Board Meeting
Bergen Fire Hall
January 21, 2004

In Attendance:

Members of Board:
Dale Leiter- Chairman Wendy Didas
Marian Partridge Michael Slack
Jean Stewart Art Price- Alternate
Patty Ireland- Secretary Paul Cooper- Alternate

Others:

Robert L. Smith
Elizabeth L. Smith

Chairperson Leiter opened the meeting at 7:30 P.M.

Planning Board meeting minutes from December 17, 2003 meeting were passed out to board members. Jean Stewart made a motion to approve the minutes as written, and Marian Partridge seconded the motion. All members were in favor.

Tracy Jong sent a letter to the DOT on January 20. She has requested a meeting with them to discuss traffic issues in the Village. A tentative date of February 18 at 7:00 pm has been set. The purpose of tonight's meeting is to discuss traffic concerns and to compile a list of questions for the DOT.

The following traffic issues were noted:

Entire Village-
1- Jake Brake Signs (to prohibit)
2- Planning Board is interested in knowing the results of previous traffic studies done in the Village.
3- What would be the costs associated with a traffic light?
4- On straight-aways like Canterbury Lane where there are many children playing daily, would it help to put up speed bumps (moveable). Cars consistently drive fast down this road.
5- Increased Sheriff's help to enforce the Village speed limit.

Hunter St. and Route 19-
1- Increase in truck traffic
2- Possibility of a Jake Brake Sign (to prohibit- there is no incline)

Rochester St and Route 19-
1- Non-residents are not aware of the "no van parking" request at the corners.
It is difficult to pull out from Rochester St, and Buffalo St.
Parking is an issue, and is it because the parking lot across from Ralph and Rosie's is being misused (tenants, etc.). If so, signs may be needed to designate who can park there.
2- Would putting a flashing yellow light on Route19 and solid red light on Rochester St. help the traffic flow on Route 19?

Parkview Lane and Route 262 (Townline Road)-
1- Traffic is often backed up to the Slack home waiting to turn onto Rt. 19, which is 700 feet from Rt. 19.
2- Speed limit of 30 is not being enforced on Route 19. Is there a way of reducing speed, and would that help?
3- Placing a three-way light, similar to what they have in Brockport.

Route 19 and Route 33-
1- Traffic coming from the east is difficult to see because of bend on Route 33.
2- While heading east and stopped to turn north on to Route 19, it is difficult to see traffic coming from east if someone is turning south on Route 19. There are many narrow escapes at this intersection, especially when traffic is traveling at a high speed. While taking a turn on red, it is difficult to see if a vehicle comes up on a driver's left side. The Planning Board is suggesting a green arrow for all directions.

A letter sent to Tracy from Dick Partridge was read. Dick states his thoughts on the various traffic concerns in the Village.

Wendy made a motion to adjourn, and Marian seconded it. All were in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 P.M

Respectfully submitted,
Patricia Ireland
